On short fingernails, is red tacky? Or other bright colors?

I’m pregnant with 2 kids and love pretty hands. Busy life keeps me from getting the “full treatment” at a salon like I used to. My hubby bought me a foot massage bath and parafin dip unit for my hands and feet. So, I’m all set. Except for the part where my fingernails are short for practicality. I love red and hot pink. Does it just look trashy on shorter nails? Keep in mind, they aren’t bitten or below the fingertip.

Actually, I think the colors would look trashy on the longer nails. RIght now, the most fashionable length is short, barely extending over the skin of the fingertip. I think a shorter length tones down the bright colors and makes it more sophisticated. It’s an easy look to maintain; who needs a manicurist? Besides, there’s nothing really more tackier than bright red talons, you know?
